What happens at an NA meeting?

Do I have to say I’m an addict?
No. You do not have to identify yourself as an addict or say anything you are not comfortable saying.
Do I have to speak?
No. You are welcome to listen. Many people attend their first meeting without speaking.
Does it cost anything?
No. NA meetings are free. A basket may be passed for voluntary contributions, but you do not have to contribute.
Can I just listen?
Yes. Many people attend their first meeting and simply listen. You can participate when and if you feel comfortable.
What is an open meeting?
An open meeting welcomes anyone who is interested in learning about Narcotics Anonymous. Friends, family members, professionals, and other members of the public may attend.
What is a closed meeting?
A closed meeting is for addicts and people who think they may have a drug problem. This gives members a place to share with others who identify with addiction and recovery.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes, if the meeting is listed as open. A friend, family member, or support person can attend an open meeting with you. Closed meetings are limited to addicts and people who think they may have a drug problem.
Do I need to register or make an appointment?
No. You do not need to register, make an appointment, or call ahead. Find a meeting and show up. You are welcome.
